Definition of Parts of Speech


This section would explain to us about Parts of Speech or other Experts Called it Words Classes and Contemporary Linguists call Lexical Categories.Words are divided into different kinds or classes, called Parts of Speech(or Words Classes or Lexical Categories),According to their use; that is, according to they do in a sentence. There are eight numbers of Parts of Speech, as below:
  1. Noun
  2. Verb
  3. Adjective
  4. Adverb
  5. Conjunction
  6. Preposition
  7. Article
  8. Pronoun
But, They are still divided into two groups namely Content Words and Function Words. Content words consists of Noun, Verb, Adjective, and Adverb while Function words consists of Conjunction,  Preposition, Article, and Pronoun.

CONTENT WORDS

Noun
A Noun is a word used as the name of a person, place, or thing (includes all object that we can see, hear, taste, smell, touch or tangible, and something that we can think of, but cannot perceive by the sense. as,
Narendra was the great King.
His kindness makes all things go on by.
The developments of this country are unbelieviable.

 Verb
A Verb is a word used to express an action or state; as,
He is a Handsome boy.
Tian wrote a letter to her girlfriend.
The sun rises in the east.

Adjective
An  Adjective is a word used to add something to the meaning of a noun, or the function of adjective is to explain noun; as,
He was a lazy man.
They have a very big house.
Anditya's hair is black.

Adverb
An Adverb is a word used to add something to the meaning of a verb, an adjective, or another adverb; as,
Andi ran quickly.
He drives the car slowly.
The view is very nice.

FUNCTION WORD

Conjunction
A Conjunction is a word used to join words or sentences; as,
Riana and Dylta are best friends.
I am hungry but I have no money to buy foods.
Not only but also he cannot come to your home today.

Preposition
A Preposition is a word used with a noun or a pronoun to show how the person or thing denoted by the noun or pronoun stands in relation to something else. as,
Andara is a contingent of Indonesia.
Denny and Ria is walking beside the bar.
The ball is next to the door.

Pronoun
 A Pronoun is a word used instead of a noun; as,
Sherlock is not coming today, because he has to help her father in the garden.
The book is on the table. It is consist if herbal description.

Article
An article is a word used to determine the form singular of noun or on certain noun that will be explained. as,
It is bracelet.
This is an ant.
The sun is rising.

Actually There is one more kinds of words that I found in Wren and Marthin's book, It is
Interjection
An Interjection is a word which expresses some sudden feeling as,
Hurrah! I have got the new bag.
Wahah! It is a nice panorama.
Alas!
Wow!
Lah!
